More Than Awards
I have loved drawing since kindergarten and have won many awards – gold, silver and bronze. However, I have never been placed in the top three. Over time, I lost my confidence and even considered quitting art altogether.
One day, I stayed in my room, feeling upset. ‘I shall give up on art entirely,’ I said. My sister noticed how unsatisfied I was. She asked gently, ‘Do you remember why you fell in love with painting in the first place?’ Her question reminded me of the joy I felt when I first picked up a paintbrush. It reignited a determination and courage within me to never give up and to keep trying.
I stayed in my room, reluctant to leave and painted from my heart in a way I never had before. When the final painting was completed, I felt proud of myself – the art showed my true self.
I finally understood that painting is about expressing myself, not about winning awards. From then on, I painted with more passion and joy.
