Chinese New Year

This year I had a fantastic Chinese New Year!

Before Chinese New Year, Mum told me a story about this festival.

Once upon a time, there was a monster named “Nian”. It lived in deep water. It would come out to catch people to eat for food on the first day of the lunar new year. Many people were killed, but luckily an old wise man taught them to stay up all night. If people lit firecrackers and hung red lanterns on that day, they would scare the monster away. People stayed up all night and did everything he taught. Finally, “Nian” was scared and ran back to the ocean.

I was excited about this story so I decided to stay up all night on the first day of the lunar new year to protect the elderly in my family.

I was so sleepy that night but I successfully stayed up late until one o’clock after midnight!  I was so proud of myself.
