Why I Love Chinese New Year

What is your favourite festival? My favourite festival is Chinese New Year. It is a peaceful and joyful festival when everyone wears new clothes and every family decorates everywhere with beautiful flowers.

On New Year’s Eve, my family gathered our relatives and friends together for a dinner. To prepare for this important reunion dinner, early in the morning, I went out to do the shopping with my parents. We bought loads of things, including chicken, fish, beef, seafood and vegetables, and of course most importantly, the couplets and lanterns. I was tired but I felt very satisfied.

The clock struck midnight, we put on our new clothes to get ready. With the fragrance from the kitchen (and Mum’s call), we knew the reunion dinner was ready. Mum came out of the kitchen with the hot dumplings which were made by her and my sister and put them in the middle of the table. Dad said, ‘Dumplings are traditional food which bring good luck and blessings for us.’ We could not stop eating until our bellies became big watermelons.

We really had a colourful and meaningful start to this new year!
